Sparkle depicts the life of three sisters from Harlem learn that fame comes at a price when they become music's hottest singing group overnight.

Sparkle" stars a young Irene Cara, Phillip Michael Thomas, Lonetta McKee and several other leading African-American actors of the 70's. Irene Cara's character is a young girl who loves her sisters and eventually falls in love with Stix. The mother is a maid who works hard to take care of her three daughters. The sisters start a singing group and perform at several showcase events but through a series of events things go awry and the sisters are left dealing with a series of personal tragedies. One sister suffers from low self esteem, another sister finds herself with a substance abuse problem and in an abusive relationship and after the ultimate tragedy occurs Irena Cara's character is left pining (and worrying) about Stix and wondering if she has the inner courage and power to stand on her own and become a successful singer.

Sparkle is a rags-to-R&B riches story about three sisters singing and struggling their way to the top of the 1950s charts and stages. Viewers watch as they confront issues of stardom and national fame, while listening to the soulful sounds and top hits from the talented Curtis Mayfield. Also included with this Sparkle DVD is the special bonus soundtrack CD, which features the incredible voice of the Queen of Soul - Aretha Franklin.
